It’s time for a Lug Pacer VL review! When Lug released their vegan leather line, my mind was blown. I’ve been collecting Lug since 2012, and though I wasn’t a Lug collector from their inception, I do consider myself in the know about their brand. And I never thought that, in a million years, would they ever do a leather style collection.
Lug’s VL (vegan leather) collection has been out for a couple months now, with mixed feelings from their customers. Not every Lug nut is on the vegan leather bandwagon, and hey, that’s okay. But, for those of us who are on board, toot toot!
Lug took some of their most beloved silhouettes in their polyester line and put them into their vegan leather collection. One of which is the Pacer. I’ll share with you my honest thoughts, what I love about this bag and what my concerns are.
Let’s get started.

Lug Pacer VL Review | THE PROS
The Lug Pacer VL is honestly one of my favourite bags of the moment. The fabrication of this vegan leather is very soft and malleable, and the pebble detailing is really beautiful. When looking at the fabrication, it really does look and feel like the real deal.
The Stud Detailing
I also really like the studded detailing on the front of the bag. But, surprisingly, I wasn’t a huge fan of the Pacer or Pacer 2 in the original polyester fabrication. Only after purchasing the Pacer VL, did I consider purchasing the Pacer 2 in navy blue. I ended up not liking the stud detailing with the polyester fabrication and returned it.
The stud detailing really suits the leather look for the Pacer VL, and reminds me of leather jackets, boots and purses with studs. Maybe that’s why I was so drawn to the copper brown colour, it must remind me of cognac boots and purses. I also find that the Pacer VL has just the right amount of studs and is not overkill, like some other bags where you’ll find that the entire bag is studded on every side. With the Pacer VL, you have just a little bit of pop, for a little bit of personality.
Two Different Straps
I’m thoroughly enjoying the vegan leather strap and printed crossbody strap options. I think this is an awesome idea to give your bag some pizazz, and helps separate your style from other basic boring vegan leather bags.
It’s also a very easy bag to clean. I take Lysol wipes to it and have no issues, and I never need to worry about drying out a leather skin, because there is none. I’ve also been a little rough with this vegan leather and it hasn’t scratched up or torn.
Lug Pacer VL Review | THE CONCERNS
The Lug Pacer VL I now have is actually my second one. The first one I received ended up having stitching issues. Some of the problem areas were at the top of the bag (if I’m confusing you, please see my video above), where under a number of stitch loops, the polyurethane had pulled and began peeling. Another issue was that some of the stitch work did not look so clean.
Lug did end up issuing me a credit, but it felt like a long process. It took about 1.5 weeks to receive the bag, only to find that it was defective, send the bag back, wait until they received it before I could get a credit, order a new one, and then wait another 1.5 weeks for it to arrive. So, this process roughly took a month to receive the replacement bag. I know, first world problems.
Right now I am monitoring whether the stitching will have the same issues in the same areas.
The other concern I have is how the bag will wear in extreme heat and extreme cold. I say this because I grew up in a city that had very hot summers (as hot as 35°C to 38°C/95°F to 100°F) and very cold winters (-40°C to -50°C/-40°F to -58°F). In extreme heat, I’ve had bags fade in the hot summer sun, or even peel from intense heat. And in cold weather, edging on the straps of my past faux leather/leather bags would crack just from touching cold air and then going into a warm environment.
So if you live in an extremely hot city or an extremely cold one, these are some things you may want to look out for.
Would I recommend this bag?
Yes, I would. Even after needing a replacement, and also waiting to see how the bag will fair in the future, I do still think this is an excellent bag. Lug offers great customer service and has a one year warranty (two years if you register your product with them within 30 days of purchase if purchase from another retailer other than Lug), and an automatic two year warranty when you purchase your items directly from their website.
Even though we may not be using our bags the way used to outside of a pandemic, two years should give sufficient time if there are any real product defects with the bag. And that’s why I can confidently recommend Lug’s VL line.
What do you think of the Pacer VL?
Are you curious about this bag? Or the vegan leather line from Lug? Do you have the Pacer VL?
